The origin

A studio built on a single conviction about design.

Theme Design Studio was founded in Mumbai in 2008, on the belief that a space should reveal something about the people who inhabit it before a single word is spoken. That conviction — that design is fundamentally emotional — has shaped every project since.

What began as a small practice focused on residential interiors has grown into a fully integrated studio, moving fluidly between architecture, interior design, bespoke furniture and end-to-end project delivery. The disciplines are treated not as separate services but as one continuous conversation: what is drawn as architecture is finished as interior, furnished with hand picked furtniture, finishing material, art pieces, etc to give a personalised look and feel.

Two decades on, the studio has completed more than One-Hundered projects across India and abroad, working for private clients, hospitality brands and corporate patrons. Yet the way each project begins hasn't changed — with a long, patient conversation about how a space should feel.

With over thirty years of practice across architecture and interior décor, Poonamchand Suthar has led the studio from a single-designer residential practice in Mumbai to a multidisciplinary firm working across commercial, residential, retail and institutional sectors — from boutique apartments in the maximum city to corporate headquarters, experience centres and one-off private offices overseas.

His approach is characterised by restraint. Every material, every proportion, every joint earns its place. The result is a body of work that reads as considered rather than decorated — spaces designed to be inhabited over decades, not photographed once.

Architecture, interiors, furniture and delivery all live under one roof. What is drawn in the studio is made in the workshop and installed on site by the same practice.
